Samburu-Samburu National Reserve is located in Northern Kenya and is a premier game reserve situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river. This vast expanse of remote pristine wilderness measures 165 square kilometers in area and borders the Ewaso Ng’iro River to the south, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta international airport your driver/guide will be waiting to pick you up from you flight. Note: your flight has to arrive before 1 PM, otherwise we can book an extra night in a hotel in Nairobi for you.

You will head to Amboseli National Park as your first safari stop. The view of Mt. Kilimanjaro compensates for the dusty safari through the magnificent landscapes of Africa.

On arrival you will have lunch and then it is time for your first game drive in Amboseli national park. Amboseli’s fragile ecosystem displays an impressive wildlife variety, with more than 50 mammal species. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species like Thomson’s and Grants gazelles, buffalo, warthog, Maasai giraffe, impala, water buck and dik-dik the views of the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro are stunning.

The coming two nights you will spend at the semi-luxury Kibo Safari camp. The spacious tents have custom-designed beds and locally made using bush logs and will ensure a good night’s sleep! All tents have flush toilets, showers, and wash basins.

In the early morning hours, the view of Mt. Kilimanjaro is usually the best and that is when you will start your safari to take breathtaking pictures of the landscape and animals. Today you will have a full day of game drives in Amboseli National Park.

After the animal encounters of today you will go back to the camp in the late afternoon where you can relax or take a dip in the swimming pool.

In the early morning hours, you will do a final game drive on your way out of Amboseli national park. Today you will take a long but scenic drive via Nairobi through the fertile region of Karatina to the Laikipia Plateau. This highland located west of Mt Kenya lies at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level.

After a nice picnic lunch on the way you will arrive in the late afternoon at your hotel just outside of Nanyuki town. Nanyuki town provides a skyline for viewing the famous Mount Kenya which is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa.

The coming two nights you will spend at Falcon Height Hotel. This boutique hotel has a swimming pool and lush green gardens. The spacious hotel rooms are tastefully decorated and have an en-suite bathroom. Dinner will be served in the cozy bistro. Tomorrow you will explore the nearby Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

After an early breakfast you will go to Ol Pejeta conservancy, a private sanctuary of more than 90,000 acres and helps protect endangered species. Home to the big 5 and many others like African wild dogs, reticulated giraffes and equipped with the only Chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya. Here you can watch these human-like apes from close and the rangers will explain you everything about them. At the Morani rhino information centre, you can watch, feed and touch Baraka, a blind black rhino! You also watch the last 3 southern white rhinos in the world from a distance! Learn about mammals at Ol Pejeta and see what poaching has done to the Rhino population in the last 30 years. Especially in the morning and evening the chances are high to have a clear view to Mt. Kenya.

In the early morning you can catch a last glimpse of Mt Kenya at sunrise before you continue to the Samburu national Reserve. On arrival you will do an en-route game drive to the lodge where you will have lunch. After lunch you will go for a long game drive in the park.

Samburu national reserve is the best kept secret of Kenya located in the heart of Kenya. The Reserve is about 165 Km2 and the climate is semi-arid. The most southern border is the Ewaso Nyiro River where you find Dumpalms and Acacias on the shoreline of this river. The northern part of the park has grass Savannah plains and dry woodland. The wildlife that you can find in Samburu game reserve are: Reticulated Giraffes, Gravy Zebras, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich to mention but a few. The cat family is also well represented with Lions, leopards and Cheetahs regularly spotted.

The coming two nights you will spend in Samburu Sopa lodge. Located inside the Samburu National Reserve in Northern Kenya, Samburu Sopa lodge is built atop high ground allowing panoramic views of the vastness of Samburu shrub land and the hills beyond. The lodge is built to reflect the architectural heritage of the local Samburu tribe. Fifteen cottages, each with two bedrooms are built in an arch formation on either side of the public areas to surround the waterhole but leaving a wide gap to allow the animals’ free movement to the water.

Today you will spend the full day in the Samburu national reserve to explore the dry northern plains and the woodland riverside in the south. Early in the morning you set off for your morning game drive. Because of the semi-desert climate, you have the most success in spotting animals when the air is still coming, and the animals are more active in the morning. If you are lucky, you might find a kill of last night!

After lunch you set out once again for a game drive. Keep an eye out for leopards in the trees! In the late afternoon you can relax at the lodge or have a refreshing dive in the swimming pool.

After breakfast you will do an en-route game drive out of Samburu national reserve. On your way to Lake Nakuru National Park, you will have a stopover at Thomson Falls and the Rift valley viewpoint where you can take beautiful landscape pictures. On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park. You will enjoy the ecological diversity and varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for game drives, bird watching and hiking. In the late afternoon you will arrive at the lodge. Ziwa Bush Lodge is your accommodation for the coming nights. It is perfectly situated in the naturally beautiful surroundings of Nakuru, Kenya. Assembled in among the African trees, the owners Ralph, Ben and May worked to ensure the lodge would not disrupt the environment. It offers a luxurious place to stay in a very neat, traditionally built lodge situated on the edge of a pond where trees are in abundance as well as the bird life.

You start your day with a cup of coffee or tea before you set out for an early morning game drive in the park. After breakfast you go for another game drive to spot lions, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, and many other wildlife. You will go back to the lodge for a nice lunch and some time to relax.

Around 4 PM you will go for an evening game drive when the light is the most beautiful to take excellent landscape pictures. After a day of exciting animal sightings, you will come back to your accommodation for a hot shower and a delicious dinner. Then watch the African sky at sunset from your veranda.

After an early breakfast you will head to the world famous Masai Mara game reserve on the border with Tanzania. It has excellent year-round animal concentration and is known for its typical short savanna plains. Home to the great migration in the months July – October when two million Wildebeest make their way northwards from the Serengeti in Tanzania.

On arrival at the gate, you will have a long en-route game drive towards the tented camp where you will spend the coming two nights. After a nice lunch you will continue with an afternoon game drive to spot lions, buffaloes, antelopes and hippo’s and crocodiles in the Mara River.

The coming two nights you will sleep at Mara Eden camp. The camp location is sublime located directly on the Mara River in the centre of the reserve. Our tents are placed along the banks of the Mara River, with a seating area at the front for relaxed game and bird viewing. All the tents have hot and cold running water, a flush toilet, 24-hour solar lighting and tasty décor.

Today you will have a full day of game drives ahead. Before sunrise you will try to spot different predators that might made a kill last night. You will return for breakfast at the camp while the sun rises over the game reserve.

You can decide to take a packed lunch for a full day game drives or come back to the camp for a hot lunch. The secret to sighting a lot of animals is to do different game drives on different time and areas for the highest success rate.

After this exciting day you will come back to the camp where you can relax with a cold drink on your veranda with a view of the Mara River!

Today is unfortunately the last day of your trip with Travels with Kip, after breakfast you head back to Nairobi. Depending on the time your flight departs, there might be some time left today to do an optional activity in Nairobi. All activities today are at your own expense. Your driver/guide will take care of your transfer to Jomo Kenyatta international Airport.

Note: your international flight must be in the afternoon after 3 PM. If you need an extra night in Nairobi, please contact us and we will make arrangements for you at an additional cost.

Some lodges may ask for seasonal surcharges for the Easter and Christmas Holidays.

  • During the trip the car and driver are there for the clients, so they decide where to stop, how long to stop etc.!
